The RSC’s Associate Schools Programme: working with schools and theatres around the country to bring Shakespeare’s work to life through the RSC’s Rehearsal Room Pedagogy.

Video title

We work with 16 regional theatres and almost 280 schools across England to embed the active teaching of Shakespeare in the curricula. Alongside transformational CPD for teachers, the programme includes unique opportunities for students in performance, leadership and career development. The programme is built around the principle of schools and theatres working in local partnership clusters to develop communities of practice.

We have clusters in over 30 areas in England, working with primary, secondary and special state-funded schools, in areas of structural disadvantage. We use a variety of measures to define this: Above average percentages of students eligible for Free School Meals and Pupil Premium, MHCLG multiple indices of disadvantage data, DfE cold spot data, Levelling Up for Culture data with a specific focus on schools serving areas of socio-economic disadvantage.
